In one swing, Will Smith set back the BLM movements, reinforced racists’ black male prejudice of violence, disrupted social norms of etiquette on an international scale, and, worst of all, committed an act of violence against a Black man that went unchallenged.

Think that doesn’t matter? How about this —

Oh, that cop is beating a Black man? Ah well, remember Will Smith.

That man is beating his Black wife? Well, it’s probably like Will Smith.

Not only did Smith validate violence against Black skin, he proceeded to shamelessly continue the event as though it was a perfectly appropriate thing to do.

Make no mistake, had that been a White male film producer or comedian Smith slapped, does anyone think they wouldn’t have gone to commercial? Would Smith have been allowed to remain in the front row of an awards show?

Actually, would Will Smith have even attempted to smack a White man up there?

That was a racist display if ever I saw one, and everyone would agree had Will Smith been a White man that did that.

Smith needs to apologize to the world, Black America, Chris Rock, and probably himself. What he did was wrong on so many levels.

And then there’s Chris Rock.

He was assaulted while performing on an international live broadcast without repercussion. What does he do with that? Granted he’s a comedian so surely will make jokes of it, but he must be pissed that ain’t nobody did nothin’ even after he made it clear he had just been attacked.

It’s like, in that moment, Chris Rock represented all Black men in America, to be struck by another man, with malice, and left without recourse. No authority to turn to for help or that offered it. No bystanders asked on his condition. Nothing was ever done — no police report, no firings, no admonishments… nothing. People expected that black man to take a beating and just keep working. (Please remember, police do not need anyone to press charges if they themselves witness a crime.)

Will Smith revealed white supremacist racism exists front and center, literally, among the most wealthy Black people too.
